U10 Ski Meisters, ages 8-10

U10 Ski Meisters, ages 8-10 (NEW FORMAT FOR 2024-2025)

This season, the U10 Ski Meister program will take advantage of all Howelsen Hill has to offer, with one day of alpine skiing, one day of skate ski cross country skiing, and one day of alpine jumping, allowing kids to sample these unique and complementary sports. The Meister program will be weekdays only at Howelsen, with the option to add on a Saturday of alpine at Steamboat Resort, OR a Saturday of ski jumping OR cross country at Howelsen. This is a one-of-a-kind program only available in Steamboat. The program provides a great foundation for skiers to pursue any discipline in the future, and for kids who just like to do it all. Participants will start off using alpine skis for jumping, but might transfer to nordic jumping skis/boots once they are ready. Participation in the Hitchens Brothers’ Wednesday Night Jump Series and Steamboat Cups is encouraged! Register by September 15 to ensure a place in this program.

Interested in adding ski jumping, cross country skate skiing, OR alpine on Saturdays? U10 Ski Meisters can add Saturday training in any of these three to the Ski Meister program for an additional fee. See more info in the drop-down menus below.

Requirements
  • Skill Requirement: All U10 Athletes must be able to make parallel turns on steeper blue runs.  Must be willing to explore trees, moguls, race courses, and powder. Cross country and Nordic Jump are beginner - advanced programs at U10 and can accommodate all ranges of ability.
  • Equipment: We partner with local shops to provide appropriate seasonal rental packages for athletes.  The right equipment is essential to an athlete’s success at this age.  There will be a U10 Alpine fit night in early October, then families can go to the shops for their rental package. Please bring us any questions you have about equipment!
  • Alpine Skis -  Athletes must be on unidirectional carving skis - NO TWIN TIPS PLEASE!  Make sure you clear your equipment with the head coach.
  • Alpine Boots - The single most important piece of equipment at this age. A SOFT FLEXING boot is an absolute must. It should be well-fitted (not too big/roomy). Examples of great boots we recommend for this age are:

  •       Lange RSJ 50 (3 buckle) (Ski and Bike Kare, Christy Sports)
Lange RSJ 60 (Ski and Bike Kare, Christy Sports)
          Rossignol Junior 4 (50 Flex)

          Head Raptor 60
          Rossignol Hero 65 (Ski Haus)
  • Skate Skis: Athletes must have a pair of skate skis, boots and poles. Low-cost cross country equipment rentals for this program are available through the Steamboat Ski Touring Center (970) 879-8180.
