View From the Summit - Women’s Leadership

It’s been a full week of amazing learning opportunities for our SSWSC staff. Especially for our women leaders in the club, starting last week with the Steamboat Women’s Leadership Summit and then this week with a series of presentations and discussions with Dr. Nicole LaVoi. I’ll have more on Dr. LaVoi’s visit next week, along with the video broadcast of her parent presentation for those that missed it. For this week I want to share some takeaways from the first ever Steamboat Women’s Leadership Summit from SSWSC Associate Executive Director Sarah Floyd.

“On October 4th the SSWSC sent Blair Seymour, Alex Shorter, Ann Battelle-Ayad, Lori Keefe, Tori Koski and Amy Burkholder to the Steamboat Women’s Leadership Summit. It was an excellent event and allowed our team of SSWSC women to network with other Steamboat women, to reflect on their professional lives and to learn alongside their SSWSC peers. Here are a few takeaways our team brought back to work.

  • E+R=O Experience + Response = Outcome. We may or may not be able to influence our Experiences (some are accidents), but we can control our Response/reaction to them, which then determines the Outcome.
  • Multi-tasking actually slows you down.
  • A full life is made up of Physical, Relationships, Financial, Spiritual, Social, Career, and Recreation…  If one isn’t working well recognize it is only part of your life, embrace something else for now.
  • PBR – Pause, Breathe…Respond – Don’t rush it!
  • AFGO – Another F*#^ing Growth Opportunity – They happen regularly and they aren’t always fun!  What can you learn?
  • Passion and belief in yourself go a long way.
  • Women really do like to support women.

The SSWSC is grateful to the women in our community for putting together a professional, informative day for the women in our community!

Each week Athletic Director Jon Nolting will share his insight about happenings inside the club and around youth sport through the View From the Summit blog post.
