The ski jumping nordic combined crew embarked on a memorable journey last week to Fox River Grove, Illinois, for an enriching training experience and two days of thrilling competitions at the Norge Ski Club Jumptoberfest October 5-6, 2024. SSWSC had 19 athletes, from U10s to U16s, and three coaches traveled to Norge. The team was fortunate to have some excellent Midwest fall weather. SSWSC definitely showed up and proved to everyone that all their hard training had paid off. This competition is also a very fun event for athletes, as they jump in front of large crowds of people from all around the Chicago area to watch kids fly through the air.
The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike team competed in the fourth race of The Colorado High School Cycling League at the North Fruita Desert Classic on Sunday, October 6, in Fruita, Colorado. Steamboat riders continued to showcase their skills across all categories and finished second place in Division 2 in the final race of the Yampa Division before the State Championships. On Wednesday, October 9, The Colorado High School Cycling League announced the list of athletes who will represent their regions at the Colorado High School Cycling League State Championships at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, October 19 – 20, 2024, and twenty-eight Steamboat Springs High School Mountain Bike Team athletes secured their spots to compete.
SSWSC snowboard athlete Walker Overstake has earned a FIS World Cup start in snowboard parallel giant slalom and parallel slalom for the 2024-2025 season. This will be his first opportunity to compete in a World Cup event, a spot he secured after a strong season on the NorAm circuit. He is currently ranked 2nd in the U.S. for Alpine Snowboarding on the 2024-2025 base points list, which secured his quota spot for the FIS World Cup.
The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team continued to show impressive young talent at the third race of the 2024 Colorado High School Cycling League series Saturday in Eagle, Colorado, at the Haymaker Classic. The team secured the Division 2 title and earned the highly sought-after Spirit Award, with this week's race theme celebrating neon. The girls' team once again delivered standout performances. Freshman Sydney Soard, the current points leader, maintained her top standing with a commanding first-place finish. Allie Reznicek placed 2nd in the sophomore race, and Whitney Warnke took 3rd in the JV race.
Steamboat Springs Winter Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club announced today 25 athletes and alumni have been named to U.S. National Teams. Six current SSWSC athletes and 19 SSWSC alumni were named to alpine, cross country, freeski, freestyle/moguls, ski jumping, nordic combined, snowboard halfpipe, snowboard cross, and teams. SSWSC is the only club in the nation with athletes named to all seven national teams.
