Freeskiing

Last Friday Sammy Schuling and Abby Hansen, both members of the US Freeskiing Halfpipe team, stopped in and guest coached our U13 free devo group with some rail progressions, and some light competition for a few sets of poles.  Click here for vido of Ryan Montgomery sliding his first off the ground rail, check back at winter carnival when we light this rail on fire.

We also hosed an Avalanche Awareness program produced by CAIC called Know Before You Go Tuesday evening, bringing attention to the dangers of skiing outside of ski area boundaries. Matt Jost presented and then answered questions about dangers, gear, planing and practice of avalanche safety.

Freestyle

Team Steam has arrived in Sweden and have begun training. Idre Fjall has been great and the Swedish National Team has provided a great training venue! It has been snowing ever since we got off the plane in Stockholm which has made for great conditions on the course. The visibility has been a challenge due to the snow and lack of sun light, that being said we came well prepared and training has been very productive. The boys have picked up right where they left off in Australia, and Maggie is making great strides to get back to where she was prior to her surgery last April!

With the lack of sunlight, there are ample amount of lights on the ski hill, which allows for 2 training session a day. Each session is 1.5hr, and with the short lap time we have been getting 8-10 top to bottom runs each session. With those numbers, we have only utilized the morning session. The purpose behind that is I would rather quality runs over a higher quantity of runs. That being said, yesterday we trained top to bottoms and skiing technique in the morning and went back out in the afternoon/night to focus on jumping. We don’t have that opportunity very often so we will do that again in our next blocks ahead.
