SSWSC Athlete Honored as ‘Athlete of the Year’
Jack Reich Receives Spencer Nelson All-Star Athlete of the Year Award
Steamboat Springs, CO-June 12, 2018: For the 5th year in a row, a Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athlete has been awarded the prestigious Spencer Nelson All-Star Athlete of the Year award. During the Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) 55th Annual Double Diamond Award Ceremony, 16-year-old Jack Reich, a sophomore at Steamboat Mountain School, was recognized for both his athletic accomplishments and his leadership skills within the club.
“Jack is both a dedicated skier and teammate,” said Adam Chadbourne, Alpine Director of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. “Not only does he push himself to excel within his sport, but he strives for success in school and within his community, dedicating his time to both classwork and volunteerism. Jack is an exceptional role model for the other athletes, working to bring up his fellow teammates through his enthusiasm, encouragement, and comradery.”
Within the sport of Alpine Skiing, Reich ranked #1 in the United States in Giant Slalom for his age group, and qualified for and placed 4th place in the 2018 Longines Future Ski Champions race in Are, Sweden, against a top international field.
Winners of the Spencer Nelson All-Star Athlete of the Year award are selected from more than 60 athletes named to the Colorado Ski Country USA All-Star team, from which one athlete from each of the 3 sports of Alpine skiing, Jumping/Nordic Combined, and Freestyle skiing are selected by the Rocky Mountain Division Board of Directors. These three athletes are then interviewed by the Colorado Ski Country USA to determine the winner. CSCUSA All-Star Team members earn CSCUSA gold passes that allow them to ski for free at CSCUSA ski resorts, which include Arapahoe Basin, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Copper Mountain, Cooper, Crested Butte, Eldora, Howelsen, Loveland, Monarch, Powderhorn, Purgatory, Silverton, Ski Granby Ranch, Snowmass, Steamboat, Sunlight, Telluride, Winter Park / Mary Jane, and Wolf Creek.

The continued success of the SSWSC athletes and the important accolades awarded to them speaks towards the century of dedication of the club towards “Creating Champions, on and off the Mountain.” Serving tens of thousands of young athletes over its history, the club is one of the most successful winter sports clubs in North America, having produced 95 Olympic athletes who have made 165 Olympic appearances.
