TeamSteam Moguls Season Off to a Fantastic Start
The TeamSteam Mogul Program is off to a fantastic start, with the first mogul training venue open in the United States—thanks to the amazing work of the Howelsen Hill snowmakers and cat drivers, athletes had a tabletop for a jump and a section of moguls for training.
With seven days of Howelsen Hill early season training under their belt, the U19 Team headed off to Apex Mountain Resort in Penticton, Canada, which boasts a full, two-jump mogul course and a four-jump jump site. A stop on the NorAm Tour, this early season training opportunity gave the athletes valuable full-course skiing and a chance to get comfortable for the NorAm Competition venue without the pressure of a competition in two days. The athletes spent the first two days jumping, adjusting from water ramps to snow, and the last four days bringing those tricks to the mogul course. An outing to the Penticton Vees Junior A Hockey League was a fun team-building night!
The U13 and U15 Mogul Teams watched their hard work at dryland pay off as they began their training season at Howelsen Hill. The athletes and coaches are taking advantage of the flat skiing to work on their fundamentals, remembering that mogul skiing starts with a deliberate, carved turn. As much as flats are good, the athletes can’t wait to start bumping and jumping!
