SSWSC Athletes Compete in Schutzenski Rollerski Festival
Four SSWSC cross country ski team members traveled to Soldier Hollow, UT, to participate in last weekend’s Schutzenski Rollerski Festival. The Schutzenski Festival took place October 12-15, 2023, and included cross country roller skier races and biathlon with top athletes from around the country. For the rollerski events, athletes use matched (same brand-same speed) rollerskis to ensure fairness. Four SSWSC athletes participated in the events: Grey Barbier, Henry Magill, Tristan Thrasher, and Charley Lodwick.
The fields are stronger than we see at a U.S. National Cross Country Ski Championships in the winter because most American World Cup skiers are in attendance. Many of the country’s best junior and senior athletes in the country took part as the races aligned with national camps. Grey Barbier, for instance, spent the week before the races doing a camp with the NTG (national training group).
The race on Saturday, October 14, was a 10km classic, and Sunday, October 15, was a freestyle sprint.
