High School Mountain Bike Team Qualifies 23 Athletes for State Championships
The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team competed in the fourth race of The Colorado High School Cycling League series at the Haymaker Classic in Eagle, Colorado, on Sunday, October 7, 2023. The team was again 1st place in Division 2, for the fourth time in the four-race series, locking up 1st place in Division 2 for the Yampa Division series, and the team took home a total of eight podium finishes. The Colorado High School Cycling League announced Wednesday the list of qualifying athletes for the State Championships in the four Colorado regions. Twenty-three Steamboat Springs High School Mountain Bike Team athletes qualified to compete and represent the Yampa Division in The Colorado High School Cycling League State Championship Spring Valley Scramble on the grounds of Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, October 21 – 22, 2023. State Championship qualifiers include Whitney Warnke, Allison Reznicek, Lindsay Berke, and Aleida Richter for the freshman girls’ category and Oscar Libin, Schuyler Biglow, and Jackson Rosencrantz for the freshman boys. Anna Boness qualified to compete in the sophomore girls’ category, and Luke Bedell, Thomas Agosta, and Mason Kemp qualified for the sophomore boys’ category. Anna Rhodes qualified for the junior varsity girls’ category, and Ryan Montgomery and Ian McLarney qualified for the junior varsity boys. Nine athletes qualified in the varsity category - for the girls, Mary McLarnon, Eva Minotto, Wren Capra, and Jesse Weaver qualified, and for the boys, Aidan Haack, Primo Famiglietti, Kyan Strong, and Jace Rebesa.
The Steamboat Springs High School Mountain bike team took 26 racers to the series’ final Haymaker Classic in Eagle and the last chance to qualify for the State Championships. The team landed eight podium finishes from freshman to varsity. In the freshman girls’ race, Whitney Warnke finished 1st, Allie Reznicek 5th, Lindsay Berke 15th, and Aleida Richter 22nd. In the freshman boys’ race, Schuyler Biglow placed 7th, Oscar Libin 9th, and Jackson Rosencrantz 22nd. In the sophomore boys’ race, Thomas Agosta placed 4th, Luke Bedell 6th, Mason Kemp 19th, Jackson Sloop 33rd, and Nate Freer 67th. In the sophomore girls’ race, Anna Boness placed 18th.
Anna Rhodes placed 2nd in the girls’ junior varsity race, and for the junior varsity boys, Ryan Montgomery was 5th, Wrigley Neeley was 35th, Stovin Briggs was 47th, and Xavier Knott was 86th.
A total of eight athletes raced in the varsity category - Mary McLarnon and Eva Minotto continued to crush the varsity girls’ race and placed 1st and 2nd for the fourth time in four races, holding the top spots for the entire race, and Jesse Weaver was 10th, and Liz Lipscomb was 11th. In the varsity boys’ race, Aidan Haack was 3rd, Kyan Strong was 14th, Jace Rabesa was 17th, and Primo Famiglietti was 18th.
