Cross Country Athletes Tig Loomis, Sawyer Landers, and Langdon Devin Double Up on Race Wins In Vail
SSWSC cross country team continues to dominate the Rocky Mountain Nordic Junior National Qualifier (JNQ) races. Athletes competed in the Ski and Snowboard Club Vail JNQ races in Minturn, CO, on February 9-10, 2024, and Tig Loomis, Sawyer Landers, and Langdon Devin won back-to-back races. Friday’s race was a mass start classic, and Saturday’s race was an interval start skate. Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy trail system in Maloit Park at the base of Battle Mountain Pass is twisty with many ups and downs and is unlike any trail network in the state. Needless to say, it is challenging to negotiate and maintain a fast tempo. The snow conditions were optimal.

Tig Loomis won both classic and skate races in the U16F division, and teammate Georgia Bishop was 3rd. Sawyer Landers also won twice in the U14M division and led the charge with a U14 podium sweep in the individual skate race, Conor Devin 2nd, and Bode Rhodes 3rd. Conor was also 2nd in the classic race the day before. Langdon Devin completed the same double win in the U12M division. Henry Magill continued to show strong results, winning the U18 classic race and placing 3rd in the U18 men’s skate race. Charley Lodwick also posted a podium finish, placing 3rd U20 in the individual start skate race. Tristan Thrasher also placed 3rd in the U18 classic race, which is notable because he was skiing up from the U16 men’s category.
