SSWSC Welcomes Head Coach of High Performance Mogul Group

The SSWSC Freestyle Mogul Team would like to announce the hiring of Kate Blamey as Head Coach for the High Performance, (post grad), mogul group.

Kate is coming to Steamboat from Victoria, Australia with a strong background in Mogul skiing. Kate skied on the North American Mogul Tour as well as other International Ski Federation events.  Kate went on to university where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science and Master’s Degree in Nutrition.

Kate has been coaching on the Nor-Am Tour since 2012 and has assisted athletes to impressive results with her attention to detail and commitment to quality. Her most recent coaching accomplishments include coaching Rohan Chapman-Davies to 3rd in the Grand Prix last season.

Australia has been a prominent program in the mogul skiing world and Kate’s attitude reflects this in the day to day. “Kate is driven, and from my prior interaction with her at FIS events, it’s obvious that she is not there for any other reason than to pursue excellence in everything that she does; from the on hill technical, to the small details of Strength and Conditioning and sports psychology, to the way she conducts herself as a person. For us to build our team and offer true world class athletic and personal development programming I believe we need coaches like Kate with a broader view to enhance this quality at our club,” said Freestyle Director Bobby Aldighieri.

Kate is also qualified as an International Ski Federation Judge, which is unusual for a coach in addition to coaching levels. This perspective is exactly what the athletes need to do one thing – impress the judges! This is not at all different than the gymnastics world - focusing on fundamentals and the intricacies of the technique with the end goal of the judges recognizing high level technical skills. Through this we believe the judges will reward us with the scores that reflect the competency of the work put in. Adding to the list of qualifications – Kate is a Level 3 Professional Ski Instructor. Surely she will bring this basic knowledge into the day to day on snow technical work.

Kate flew to Whistler direct from Australia to join up with the High Performance group during their current 3-week training camp in Whistler BC. She will be accompanying the HP group to other on snow trainings including Zermatt Switzerland and Apex BC, Canada in the fall.

We welcome Kate in to the SSWSC organization!
