Athlete News, September28th

*Our website was down last week, so this week’s Athlete News is inclusive of last week’s submissions as well.*

ALPINE
The Water Ramp event went off with a slash this Saturday! Forty Five U10 and a group of older athletes experienced the trampolines and Water Ramps with the help of the Freestyle Coaches and High Performance athletes. It was great to get so many young athletes out to experience the water ramp facility and to have such a large group for the first time this event has taken place. Such positive energy and a great blast off to the U10 season!

FREESKIING
Last weekend members of the Freeskiing team Headed out to Park City to work with the US Ski and Snowboard Team Project Gold tramp and Airbag Camp.  Riley Jacobs, Liam Baxter and Cael McCarthy all made the trip across Highway 40 to get some time in the air.  All of the athletes felt that the trip was a success, working on spins in both directions, and spending time working on some doubles.

MOUNTAIN BIKING
During the weekend off between races, the Steamboat HS MTB didn’t rest…no literally they didn’t sleep because they were running the Run Rabbit Run Aid station at the top of Emerald from 6pm to 6am. The team moms, as well as some other recruits, hosted the Friday morning Aid Station on the top of Storm Peak from 7am-2pm. I think it is safe to say that not many will be aspiring to run 100 miles in the near future.

The High MTB Team had a great race at Granby Race this past weekend. The highlights of the weekend was Cam Owens winning the JV race and becoming the points leader. In Eagle he will wear the Leaders Jersey and hopes to maintain his position on into state championships in Durango. The theme of the weekend was “Posh Pit.” The Steamboat team interpreted the challenge as “Pimped out Posh Pit.” We had blow-up lounge chairs, beaded curtains, a disco ball and some great costumes.
