HUGE RESULTS in the NorAm SLs!
SSWSC current athletes and alumni, Hig Roberts, Jett Seymour and Nick Santaniello are the 1st, 2nd, and 5th Americans in the Noram SL overall standings after the latest stop of the NorAm circuit in Stowe, Vermont. The top two in the season overall standings will secure a World Cup position for next year and we have a couple boys in the mix. The NorAm Cup is the highest level of alpine racing in North America below the World Cup!
Hig Roberts won the Giant slalom today, 1/5. Yesterday, two slaloms were held.
In Slalom one, Hig placed second to David Ketterer of Germany. Jett moved from the 59th start position to 4th. Nick moved from the 38th start position to 12th and Tommy Anderson moved from 89th all the way up to 28th, scoring the first NorAm points of his career in his first year with SSWSC. Athletes start positions are based on their ranking coming into the race, so these move ups are impressive and show their progress!
Slalom two was the icing on the cake. After improving his standings and start position in race one, Jett took full advantage of a clean course and cruised to the first NorAm victory of his young career. Nick Santaniello, Jett’s favorite training partner, now skiing for the University of Denver, followed closely on his heels in 5th. The next best finisher in Jett’s age group was 23rd in the first race and 32nd in the second race, highlighting how impressive his results for his age (18) are at this level of race!

U14
Last weekend, many U14 athletes competed in Winter Park at a USSA SYNC Cup SL Race. Participants included Ryli Adrian, Emilia Cooper, Bryn Eliason, Annika Ort, Nicole Nolting, Marissa Drobek, Emma Ferer, Jordan Simon, Alden Wade, Brooks Overstake, Luke Olson, and Cooper Puckett. Athletes fought through both good and adverse conditions to ski against some older, stronger, and more experienced athletes and they did great! Top performers for the weekend were Cooper Puckett who was the 1st U14 athlete and Emilia Cooper, 5th U14 on Saturday. On Sunday, Alden Wade was Steamboat’s top U14 performer, landing himself the 7th fastest U14 time! Great effort team!
Meanwhile, the remainder of the team stayed home and got in valuable time on their Super-G skis, despite all the snow. After a few days of focused and deliberate training and practice, the U14 team took to the mountain and let loose on our 20’’ in 24 hrs! See picture…
Next up, athletes race this weekend at home in the Bolle Age Class GS upon All Out! Let’s go Team Grizzly!
