Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team Wins Again
The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike was back to racing last weekend at the Cloud City Challenge in the third race of The Colorado High School League. The Yampa Division race took place on September 24 in Leadville, Colorado. The team had seven individual podium finishes from freshman to varsity racers and also took home the overall Division 2 win again for the third consecutive race—top ten finishes count for points in the team score. The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team is facilitated by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
Steamboat varsity boys and girls won both categories again this weekend, with Aidan Haack taking his second consecutive win and Mary McLarnon with her third consecutive win, going undefeated this season, and Eva Minotto with her third consecutive 2nd place finish. There are a total of ten racers in varsity. For the girls, Mary McLarnon 1st, Eva Minotto 2nd, Wren Capra 7th, Jesse Weaver 11th, and Liz Lipscomb 15th. In the boys varsity race, Aidan Haack was 1st, Primo Famiglietti 13th, Kyan Strong 15th, Jace Rabesa 24th, and Thomas Miller 35th. Nearly every varsity rider improved their race results from previous races this season.
Racing started early on Sunday, with the junior varsity boys racing at 8:15 a.m. The boys braved very cold temps to start at 28 degrees Fahrenheit, but the sun came out quickly to warm things up a little. Results in the freshman race, Ryan Montgomery placed 6th, Ian Mclarney 34th, and Stoven Briggs 5th. In the junior varsity girls category, Anna Rhodes was 3rd place.
In the sophomore boys race, Thomas Agosta was 3rd, Luke Bedell 5th, and Jackson Sloop 44th. In the freshman races race, Whitney Warnke continued to crush the freshman girls category for the third consecutive race, taking 1st place, Allie Reznicek 9th, and Lindsay Berke 15th. For the freshman boys, Schuyler Biglow finished 3rd on the podium, Oscar Libin 12th, and Jackson Rosencrantz 19th.
