PG Athletes
After some success at the Vail qualifying races, the FIS crew had a few short days at home, but then hit the road for the great state of Wisconsin for 3 SL U19 qualifying races at Mt. La Crosse. Conditions were strange coming from the snowy west with warmer than average temperatures, fog rolling in and out, and even a little rain on Sunday.
A lot of chemicals were used to keep the snow in decent shape, but it felt a lot like Spring or Summer conditions and proved to be very tough at times for the field of racers.
The group as a whole did well and kept going with the success that we had from the previous races. There were many career best results from a handful of athletes. Ellese Lupori on the women’s side had a successful first two days, ending up 5th overall the first day, and 4th overall (2nd for R/C U19’s) the second day. On the men’s side, a highlight came from first-year athlete James Gee, moving from 84th all the way to 17th on the day. All results can be found online at HERE.
An SSWSC family, living in Wisconsin, graciously donated their garage for a ski tuning shop for the athletes! From the parents: “What a great group of athletes…they are all so polite and appreciative!! We turned our garage into the tuning area. SSWSC athletes/coaches are welcome any time.”
U16 Athletes
This past weekend the U-16’s competed in the Sync Colorado Cup Series at Copper Mountain in one Slalom race followed by a Giant Slalom race the next day. Saturday both the men and the women saw a strong field filled with older older athletes which made for an exciting day! The men were led by Trey Seymour who took third place for the U-16’s and 9th overall. Chase Seymour also had a great day finishing 7th for the U 16’s and 17th overall. On the ladies side Amber Elliot finished 8th for the U-16s and 13th overall. Hannah Soria also had a solid day finishing 10th for the U-16s and 17th overall. In the Giant Slalom race the boys had a very strong day with Cole Puckett finishing 2nd for the U-16’s and 3rd overall. Trey Seymour finished 3rd for the U16’s and 4th overall followed by his brother Chase who took 4th for the U-16s and 5th overall. On the ladies side Margaret Dickson had a blazing first run and was sitting in 2nd place merely two hundredths back but had some trouble second run and did not finish. There was strong skiing and career best results from many of our other U-16s and we are very excited to head to Loveland this coming weekend for a series of four races!
U12/U14 Athletes
Last weekend the U12 & U14 Alpine teams traveled to Winter Park for two days of action-packed SL racing. The Steamboat athletes showed up with by far the most energy and excitement to be racing, and their skiing definitely reflected that! All of SSWSC athletes skied well, and the U14 women & men proved to be a dominant force taking 15 of 24 podium spots and a total of 36 Top 10 finishes. The U12 athletes walked away with 2 Podium finishes and an exceptional 11 Top 10 finishes!

Soda Pop Slalom
We had some fun helpers at the Soda Pop Slalom this weekend!
Nordic Combined
Fourteen SSWSC Ski Jumpers and Nordic Combiners flew to the windy city last weekend to compete in an U.S. Cup event against some of the best junior skiers in the country. The competition also featured international jumpers from Norway, Finland, and Slovenia. Our jumpers had their work cut out for them, but they all jumped well under pressure. They were extra pumped to jump in front of a crowd of over 2000 people! Decker Dean jumped to 2nd place in the Junior class and 14th in the Open class the following day. Grant Andrews also jumped well with a 2nd place finish in the U20 class and 16th in the Open class. Elijah Vargas, Peter Rosenthal, Bennett Gamber, and Niklas Malacinski also broke into the Top 10 in their respective classes on the 70-meter jump.

Our athletes had a great time in the Deer Valley Duals event. Olivia unfortunately took a big hit in her first round; she is ok and will be ready to ski in Calgary.
Jaelin placed 3rd (best US result in both men and women) completing some of her best skiing for the season. She has now been invited to compete at the last two world cups for the season in Japan and Russia (World Cup finals). This result will qualify her for the B Team on the US ski team next year.
