The SSWSC Freeskiing Team had their 3rd USASA Slopestyle Competition this past weekend at Keystone Resort.  Everyone skied very well and had a great time but some stand out’s were Cael McCarthy who put down a run he’s been working on all season to earn 2nd in 10-11 Boys, Riley Jacobs landing a very clean run to take 1st place in the Girls 12-13 age group, and Josie Seibel who spun every jump and placed 1st in her age group and 2nd overall in the Girls 14 and up!

We are now preparing to go to our last Rail Jam, Slopestyle, and Halfpipe competition of the season in Breckenridge this weekend.  Everyone is excited and there are many looking to make it to Nationals in Copper coming up in April.

Alpine U14

We just got home late Sunday night from Crested Butte where our athletes competed for 3 days in the 37th Annual Prater Cup down in Crested Butte. Aside from the awesome skiing to be had down there with their snow this winter, the Steamboat athletes performed very well! Here is a snippet of results and noteworthy points for an article in the paper.

This past week, members from the Steamboat Springs U14 Alpine team ventured south to Crested Butte for the 37th Annual Prater Cup, the primary qualifying races for the U14 Rocky/Central Junior Championships to be held in Steamboat coming up March 16-20th.

At the end of the week, SSWSC had 9 athletes qualify for Junior Championships, 5 women and 4 men. Qualifying women included Ryli Adrian, Emilia Cooper, Natalia Tatge, Marissa Drobek, Annika Ort, and other participants included Nicole Nolting, Bryn Eliason, Emily Watson, Caroline Gilchrist, and Emma Ferer. Qualifying men included Cooper Puckett, Jordan Simon, Alden Wade, and Colin Kagan and other participants included Luke Olson, Brooks Overstake, Max Rotermund, and Stefan Grabowski.

Top-10 results from the week included:
Cooper Puckett: 2nd SG, 1st GS, 1st GS, 1st SL, 1st SL
Ryli Adrian: 4th SG, 4th GS, 2nd SL, 3rd SL
Natalia Tatge: 4th GS
Jordan Simon: 5th SG, 5th GS, 9th GS
Emilia Cooper: 6th SG, 10th GS, 10th SL

Conditions down in Crested Butte were ideal for racing, and the snow surface was hard. The speeds were high, the competition fierce, and our kids pushed their limit and persevered like a true Steamboat athlete!
Next up, some members of SSWSC U14 Alpine head to Ski Cooper for the Council Cup! We wish them luck!

I am very proud of how our athletes have forged ahead with great positive attitudes into several cold windy snowy mornings. We have had some big weather events this year on Saturdays to include some awesome powder mornings. It has been a pleasure to coach the Jedi Wolves. They have shown real interest helping each other, and are really good listeners when I am explaining a drill.
