Alpine Athletes Kat Cosby and Curtis Zanni Win U18 Alpine National Championship Qualifier Races in Breckenridge
SSWSC alpine athlete Katharina Cosby won two back-to-back women’s giant slalom race days at the U18 U.S. National Championship qualifiers on Friday, January 19, and Saturday, January 20, in Breckenridge, Colorado. Teammate Curtis Zanni won the men’s race on Saturday, and on Sunday, January 21, Zanni placed 4th, just off the podium, in a very tight race just .27 seconds off the giant slalom winner. Results from the U18 National Championship qualifier races determine who will represent the Rocky/Central Division in the U18 National Alpine Championships March 2-8 in Jackson, Wyoming. The qualifiers in Breckenridge included two giant slalom races and one super g race for men and women; races took place January 19-22, 2024

On Friday, January 19, in addition to Cosby winning the first women’s giant slalom race, athletes Mollie Mctique, 7th place, and Hazel Fernley, 19th, also placed in the top twenty.

On Saturday, in the men’s giant slalom race, Curtis Zanni won, and teammates Colin Kagan, 11th, and Caman Beauregard, 16th, placed in the top 20 for the men. Also, on Saturday, in addition to Cosby’s win, athletes Hazel Fernley, 13th, and Kahlen White, 17th, placed in the top twenty, and Merrit Flannigan was 23rd.

On Sunday, in the men’s giant slalom race, Zanni placed 4th, Colin Kagan was 9th, Camen Beauregard 22nd, and Owen Wither was 24th.

Racing continued on Monday, January 22, with back-to-back super g races for men and women. In the women’s super g race, SSWSC’s Mollie McTique was 5th, and Kahlen White was 14th, rounding out the top twenty. Hazel Fernley was 25th. In the men’s super g race, Camen Beauregard was the top SSWSC finisher in 11th place, and Colin Kagan was 12th.

The next stop in the qualification process is Northern Michigan University Rocky/Central Qualifier MidAm Atmore Memoria in Minnesota with three slalom races Friday, February 9 - Sunday, February 11.
