Cross Country Athletes Show Strong Results in First Rocky Mountain Nordic Junior National Qualifier
Cross Country Athletes Compete in First Rocky Mountain Nordic Junior National Qualifier
This past weekend, 37 SSWSC cross country athletes traveled to Granby, CO, to race in the first two Rocky Mountain Division races. Races were held at Snow Mountain Ranch - one of the state’s most extensive trail systems for cross country skiing. Conditions were optimal considering the low snowpack in northern Colorado.
Saturday was an individual start classic race, with all U16 and older athletes competing in a 5K and younger athletes racing either a 3K or a 2K, based upon their age. A mass start skate race was the format for Sunday. The U18/20 distance was bumped to 7.5K, the U16 distance stayed at 5K, and the younger race distances mirrored Saturday’s format. Regional Junior National Qualifier races span the ages of U8 up to U23 in the course of a single day’s racing. SSWSC had a host of impressive results throughout the age categories.
