Roman Elvidge Wins Western Region Elite Alpine Race Series Giant Slalom Race in Jackson, Wyoming
U.S. Alpine Ski Team Member and SSWSC athlete Roman Elvidge won the Western Region Elite Alpine Race Series giant slalom race on Monday, February 19, on Snow King Mountain in Jackson, Wyoming. Teammate Ian Haupt was also on the podium in 3rd place. Colin Kagan was 6th, and Curtis Zanni was 11th (2nd place U18). On Tuesday, February 20, Ian Haupt was on the podium again for the giant slalom in 2nd place, and teammate Colin Kagan was 3rd. Over 125 athletes competed in the series, with slalom races on February 17-18 and giant slalom races on February 19-20. Haupt, Kagan, and Zanni had strong results early in the race series, finishing in the top 20. In the slalom races on February 17, Haupt was 5th; Kagan was 7th and on February 18, Haupt was 4th; Zanni was 19th. Elvidge is traveling to the east coast to compete in the Eastern NorAm races and Haupt and Kagan continued north to compete against college racers in Big Sky, Montana. Zanni returned to Steamboat to continue training for the U18 Nationals which will take place in early March.
