Jackson True and Reise Wilson are Freestyle Moguls Junior National Champions
Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Athlete Jackson True is U19 Freestyle Moguls Junior National Championship in Every Event and Reise Wilson is U17 Freestyle Moguls Junior National Champion
Ten athletes qualify for U.S. Freestyle Nationals in Waterville Valley, NH
Fifteen Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club moguls athletes competed in the 2024 Freestyle Moguls Junior Nationals March 12-17 at Utah Olympic Park in Park City, Utah. SSWSC athletes dominated the podium in multiple competitions. Jackson True is the Junior National Champion in men’s U19 Moguls, Dual Moguls, Aerials, and Combined. Reise Wilson is the women’s U17 Moguls Junior National Champion, and many other athletes earned podium spots throughout the competitions.
On challenging, icy, and then slushy, steep mogul courses, athletes navigated difficult conditions and a demanding schedule with competitions at all hours. The reintroduction of an aerial competition added some new and fun for the athletes, with five Steamboat competitors opting to qualify to post results in the Combined Event and Moguls and Dual Moguls. In addition to True and Wilson winning championship events, Wilson also placed 3rd in Dual Moguls. Liam Siefken was 2nd in the men’s U17 mogul competition. In the women’s U19 competitions, Isabel (Izzy) Powell earned 3rd in Dual Moguls, 4th Moguls, 4th in the Aerials, and 2nd in the women’s U19 Combined.
Also, in women’s U19 Moguls, Mia Satkiewicz was 7th, Claire Boyle was 10th, and Abrianna, in her first competition back from an injury last April, finished 14th. In women’s U17 Moguls, Anouk Bradley was 15th, and Finley Fontaine was 29th. In men’s U17 Moguls, Scotty Kane was 14th, and Shane Mariano was 18th. In the women’s U15 competition, Gigi Lobeck was 31st. In men’s U15, Griffin Harvey was 47th.
Eight athletes are now competing at the 2024 U.S. Nationals in Waterville Valley, NH, March 20-24, 2024—Xander Tatar-Brown, Jackson True, Liam Siefken, Shane Mariano, Claire Boyle, Abrianna Gordon, Reise Wilson, Izzy Powell and Anabel Ayad. Mia Satkiewicz also qualified but will not attend. Satkiewicz was injured at Junior Nationals, and Gigi Lobeck also qualified but declined her spot this year.
