The Murphy Roberts Holiday Classic, hosted by Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, kicked off this week on December 18 and 19 with two days of giant slalom racing on Steamboat Ski Resort and continuing Friday, December 20, with the iconic night slalom on Howelsen Hill and day slalom on Saturday, December 21. The weather and course conditions were perfect for both days of racing at Steamboat Ski Resort; the energy was high, and the course was fast.

DAY 1 RECAP
Louison Accambray from France and skier with the University of Colorado ski team took the overall win for the women, and Norwegian skier Johs Braathen Herland with the University of Utah won the overall for the men. SSWSC alumnae Tatum Grosidier, who is on the U.S. Ski Team and skiing with the University of Utah, was 3rd overall and 1st in the Junior division (U21 and younger). SSWSC’s Abby Olson was 3rd U18 (15th overall) for the women. SSWSC’s Jeremy Nolting was 2nd in the Junior (U21 and younger) men’s division, and SSWSC swept the U18 division men’s podium with Adrian Beauregard taking 1st (34th overall), his brother Caman 2nd (37 overall), and Owen Wither 3rd (43 overall). SSWSC’s Abby Olson was 3rd U18 (15th overall) for the women.

DAY 2 RECAP
Kjersti Mortiz from the U.S. Ski Team took the win for the women and Raphael Lessard from the University of Utah won for the men.

SSWSC alumnae Tatum Grosdidier from the U.S. Ski Team and the University of Utah was 3rd (5th overall). Logan Grosdider with Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club was 2nd U18 (8th overall). SSWSC’s Jeremy Nolting just narrowly missed the podium, coming in 4th overall, but Nolting easily won the Junior division. Adrian Beauregard with SSWSC was the U18 winner for the second day in a row (29th overall), Owen Wither was 2nd U18 (34th overall)

The three Grosdidier sisters put down fast runs to all end up in the top 15—Tatum Grosdidier (5th overall), Logan Grosdidier (8th overall), and Riley Grosdidier (13th overall).

The race honors Murphy Roberts, a former SSWSC athlete who passed away unexpectedly in 2016 at 22. The Roberts family offers a generous scholarship fund in memory of their son. The annual Murphy Roberts Scholarship Award is presented at the awards ceremony following the night races on December 20. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to the athlete who best demonstrates a passion for alpine ski racing while selflessly providing a level of enthusiasm, fun, and team participation, which are the traits exemplified by Murphy.
