Twenty-Eight SSWSC Athletes named to Rocky Mountain Division All-Star Team
Steamboat Springs, CO: Twenty-eight athletes across the disciplines of Alpine, Freestyle, and Nordic Combined/ Jumping, with ties to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, were recently recognized as members of the Rocky Mountain Division “All-Star” Team of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association. In total, the All-Star team includes 73 athletes; 37 Alpine, 25 Freestyle, and 10 Nordic Combined/Special Jumping.
Making the team is considered to be one of the highest honors attainable within an athlete’s division, with all athletes in pursuit of US Ski Team or Olympic dreams. While criteria varies between disciplines, each athlete on the team has achieved a top national status in their age categories. As recognition, the team receives jackets, as well as access to training venues across the state.
The number of Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes named to the team this year is more than double that of last year’s, when 12 athletes were named to the team in 2019-2020. The increase of athletes making the team also means that SSWSC athletes make up more than a third of all of the athletes named to the All-Star Team, who come from 11 different ski clubs or schools in the division.
“We would like to thank the RMD board for their work to support and recognize the achievement of this year’s All-Stars both from our club and across our region,” said Dave Stewart, Athletic Director of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. “We are excited to follow the progress of these athletes as they work to achieve their potential on and off the mountain this season and for many years to come.”
On the Freestyle Team, SSWSC athletes include Wyatt Antkiewicz, Anabel Ayad, Ricky Casals, Carina Creamer, Maggie Ryan, and Ella Walker.
From Alpine, SSWSC athletes include Nick Demarco, Bode Flanigan, Riley Grosdidier, Tatum Grosdidier, Lauren Haerter, Louis Nguyen, Cam Owens, Cooper Puckett, Noah Riemenschneider, Trey Seymour, Jordan Simon, and Isabelle Washburn.
All ten of the Nordic Combined/Jumping athletes on the All-Star team hail from Steamboat, in part because there is only one program within the division that trains in the disciplines of Nordic Combined and Jumping. While there may not be other athletes to contend with regionally, the athletes named to the team rank among the best in the nation, with 5 of the recently named members also on the National Teams: Annika Belshaw, Alexa Brabec, Tess Arnone, Annika Malacinski, and Niklas Malacinski, and three on the Junior National Team: Aspen Bennett-Manke, Gunnar Gilbertson, and Erik Belshaw. New to the All-Star team this year: Maximus Nye and Thomas Miller.
The SSWSC would like to congratulate all of these new All-Stars.
