News from the water ramp

July 1, 2010

Hello Sports fans,

The Big Splash Award this week is going to Nic Simon for his back flip. This was a great start for his first day doing this trick. Becky Miller and Luke Farny are coming up quickly on their chance for the Big Splash working on their backfulls.

We are hoping that all of our athletes that are in B.C. for summer snow time are landing “fuzzy side up” with some new tricks from the ramps before they left.

The crash of the week had to be Woo Cho today on his back double full attempt – yes attempt.

Please remember that the Ramps are closed on the 4th of July so that everyone can be with family and friends.

We are happy to welcome a new coach this year Mike Amato. Mike has spent a num

ber of years coaching in the Rocky Division and will be working with all the athletes at the ramps and with the Noram Athletes during the winter. If you have not met him yet come out to the ramps and introduce yourself to him. He has also pick up the job of head griller for the coaching staff at the ramps.

The Big Splash Award goes to Hannah Kearney who took the first jump of the year on June 5th. You might remember her from winning that shiny gold medal for the 2010 Olympics.

Reed Snyderman tried to steal it today by making his first jump a triple back tuck but came up a hair short.

Travis Crooke is running the Bike and Ramp Program on Wednesdays and during the first day after making it to the ramps had great success with all the athletes starting up some tricks in to the water. Travis has said that he is going to jump with the kids this year and we are going to hold him to it!

The older athletes are welcoming back a professional long board crash artist who doubles as a coach with the younger athletes – “who is that Bandit”

Rob Day is leading by example of riding his bike to the ramps each day (and not his motorcycle). This way he is all warmed up and ready to coach on time. The coaching staff is hoping that this idea will be catching on shortly.

Water Ramp Facility at Bald Eagle Ski Lake

The Water Ramp at the Bald Eagle Ski Lake is a one of a kind facility. It provides fun summer training for all ability levels. The facility has four takeoffs consisting of a small cheese wedge for beginners, a simulated mogul jump, a freestyle single kicker and a sixteen-foot wide jump designed to simulate a tabletop takeoff. The facility also has two in-ground trampolines for further aerial training. The water jump facility is the ideal summer training spot for freestyle skiers and snowboarders to develop body awareness in the air.
